Antique Edwardian Adjustable Wire Dress Form

A non-combined shipping item. Please do not combine with any other items at checkout.

A remarkable antique adjustable wire dress form, with an open sculptural silhouette and beautifully aged metalwork. Originally designed as a working dressmaker’s form, the ingenious wire construction could be expanded or compressed to accommodate different measurements—a wonderfully utilitarian object that has become a striking piece of decorative art.

The distinctive interlocking wire mesh creates the form of a fitted bodice, narrowing dramatically at the waist before gently flaring through the hips. A vertical series of original metal adjustment tabs runs down the center, once used to hold and adjust the form to specific proportions.

Its high neckline, tiny waist and graceful shape recall the structured silhouettes of late Victorian and Edwardian-era dressmaking, when garments were carefully tailored over corseted forms.

We have left the wonderful aged wire completely exposed and added a length of salvaged creamy crochet trim, included with the piece. Draped casually around the neck, it softens the industrial metalwork and gives the form the feeling of something discovered in an old European dressmaker’s atelier.

Size & Details:
Approximately 29 inches
Antique adjustable wire dress form
Collapsible and expandable wire construction
Original center adjustment tabs and hardware
Beautifully aged metal patina
Salvaged crochet trim included
Age-related oxidation, wear, bends and imperfections throughout

Styling Suggestions:
Treat this as sculpture rather than simply a dress form. Leave the wire exposed and drape the included antique crochet loosely around the neckline, or layer with an old linen garment, French textile, ribbons or a collection of necklaces. Beautiful standing on an old worktable or cupboard alongside dried garden flowers, antique sewing notions and faded textiles for the feeling of a wonderfully imperfect European dressmaker’s studio.
